Abigail Langford and Laura McBride Appointed New Head and Deputy Head of Criminal Team

Broadway House Chambers Criminal Team are delighted to announce that Abigail Langford is the new elected Head of Team with Laura McBride as her Deputy.
Following Stephen Wood QC’s appointment as Joint Head of Chambers, Stephen is delighted to hand the Head of Team role over to his Deputy, Abigail. Stephen said, “Abby and Laura are two of the most highly respected criminal advocates on the whole of Circuit. I am therefore delighted that Abby has agreed to take on the leadership of the Criminal Team, with Laura as her deputy. Each of them has the energy, drive and imagination to lead the Team to greater success”
Abigail Langford undertakes both prosecution and defence work across the north eastern circuit. A grade 4 prosecutor and a member of the CPS Rape and Serious Sexual Assault Panel, she is experienced in dealing with cases involving vulnerable witnesses, particularly young witnesses and defendants. Abigail has a particular specialism in dealing with the Defendants with mental illness, including conducting conferences/ hearings in a hospital setting. Abigail deals with cases involving serious sexual offending and murder both for the prosecution and the defence. Abigail is down to earth and has a pragmatic approach to dealing with complex cases.
Laura McBride is regularly instructed to represent both the defence and the prosecution. She is a grade 3 prosecutor and has experience dealing with a broad range of offences, including burglary and theft, perverting the course of justice, drugs offences, sexual offences and public order offences. Laura is a sought after trial advocate with a wide range of experience. Laura has been instructed in many serious and complex high profile cases including the Rotherham child sexual abuse trials and prosecutions relating to the Hillsborough disaster.
Both Abigail and Laura have a particular specialism in dealing with complex disclosure issues for both the prosecution and defence.
