Stephen Wood Appointed as Queen’s Counsel

Thu 16th Jan 2020

Broadway House Chambers are delighted to announce that Stephen Wood (Head of the Criminal Team) has been appointed as Queen’s Counsel.

Pupil to Graham Hyland QC and Ian Newbon, Stephen Wood (Called 1991) has practised for almost 30 years and is a leading barrister in the field of Criminal Law. Recommended by the national legal directories such as the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, his practice has attracted praise by solicitors on Circuit and beyond.

Stephen recently prosecuted John Taylor, who was handed a life sentence for the murder of Leanne Tiernan. Taylor is now serving a full life sentence, after Stephen prosecuted him for serious historic sexual offences committed before the murder.

Stephen also prosecuted the former lead singer of rock group The Lostprophets for offences committed in custody.

Members of Chambers warmly congratulate Stephen on his well-deserved appointment.

Abigail Langford, Deputy Head of the Criminal Team said, ‘This is a thoroughly deserved appointment for a brilliant criminal barrister’

Stephen himself had this to say: “I’m delighted and honoured to have been appointed QC. I will always be grateful to my family, my colleagues in Chambers, local legal professionals and the Judiciary for their support and encouragement”.

The ceremony will take place on 16th March 2020 at Westminster Hall.
