Broadway House Chambers Awarded Bar Council’s Wellbeing at the Bar Certificate
Broadway House Chambers is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the 'Wellbeing at the Bar' certificate. This recognition reflects our commitment to fostering a supportive working environment for all our members and staff.
“The Bar Council has introduced a Certificate of Recognition to recognise efforts made to promote wellbeing across the Bar. The Certificate acts as a beacon of good wellbeing practice at the Bar for those who receive it” (Bar Council)
We continuously review and enhance our wellbeing support through a variety of initiatives, including:
Wellbeing drop-in sessions with our dedicated mental health first aiders.
Tea and cake sessions, providing an informal opportunity to discuss wellbeing issues.
An annual step challenge involving both barristers and staff. This event fosters a sense of competitiveness, raises money for good causes, and encourages everyone to enjoy fresh air and exercise. Last year, 30 people participated.
Participation in local 10K runs/walks to raise money for charity. In 2024, we completed the Leeds 10K, and this year, we are ready to take on the Bradford 10K.
Encouraging staff and barristers to bring their friendly dogs to chambers, which has been proven to assist with wellbeing.
Organising social events for staff, teams, and the entirety of chambers. Since the pandemic, working from home has limited our in-person interactions, so these events help us reconnect.
Providing access to a healthcare app for barristers and staff, offering 24-hour medical appointments and counselling.
Sending our barristers and staff a survey to gather their ideas for improving wellbeing in Chambers. This feedback is reviewed by our wellbeing committee and then implemented.
We are incredibly proud of this achievement and remain dedicated to maintaining and enhancing our wellbeing practices.
