Success for Paul Smith as Claimant awarded almost £90,000 for pregnancy/maternity discrimination, victimisation and unfair dismissal

The Claimant, a former hairdresser, represented herself at the liability stage and succeeded in eight claims of pregnancy/maternity discrimination, three claims of victimisation and a claim of unfair dismissal arising from the conduct of her former employer, the owner of the salon in which she worked.

Paul Smith represented the Claimant at the remedy stage, securing a global award of compensation in her favour, in the sum of £89,849.38. The compensation awarded included over three years' loss of earnings, an award of £25,000 for injury to feelings and aggravated damages in the sum of £5,000, on account of the employer's aggravating conduct in one of her employees having vilified the Claimant in public, in the presence of her baby.
